Data helps our communities get the help they need
Angelina Mose Tuiali'i from THINK Hauora uses census information to get an accurate picture of Pacific people's health needs in Horowhenua and Manawatū.

Reliable health information about the Pacific communities in Horowhenua and Manawatū can be hard to find. This means many people are not visible to health services in the region and have less representation in important decisions.
Angelina Mose Tuiali'i from THINK Hauora uses census information to get an accurate picture of her community and the services they need.
Census information showed there were many people experiencing housing issues, who were also falling through the gaps in the health system.
Armed with this information, she successfully applied for funding to address the needs of her community.
She has seen first hand how important it is for communities to give themselves a voice. In her words, “if you don’t speak up, no one will do it for you.”
Local initiatives now underway in Horowhenua are the direct result of census information. With more data coming through, more community support could happen.
"The more we know, the more we can do. Census is how we find that out."
